I think this year’s Blog Action Day was a great success as I found myself ingesting vast amounts of new knowledge as well as clearing up old stereo types. Challenging discussions ensued as once again the blogging community showed its wonderful ability to ‘hash out’ the many aspects of a subject.
But after an entire day of reading and thinking about poverty, I thought it might be nice to share some ‘lighter’ things with you guys. So here’s a few pics I managed to drudge up that give you a little more insight into the world of ‘this redhead’.
Camp

Here’s a view from a place we like to call ‘Camp’. It’s a small house located deep in the farmlands of Virginia. Liz’s grandparents own it and they recently added a pool.
The view of the mountains only adds to the serenity and relaxation that one enjoys over a long weekend.
Abi

This one was taken while we were playing ‘dress up’ with one of our Miniature Dachshunds. I’m not sure if she had as much fun as we did.

Here it’s apparent that Abi went a little overboard on the ‘sauce’. She’s doing much better now and we have her enrolled in a support group.
Heli Guys

A few summers ago, myself and two other guys really got into radio control helicopters. We’d meet every Saturday at the local airfield and flew (sometimes crashed) to our hearts content.
A day at the field

Here’s a shot of some of ‘the guys’ as well as a few of my planes. I guess you had to be there?
The field and photography

On a pretty day, Liz and I like to take the dogs and our cameras to the airfield for some photos and exercise. Here’s Liz preparing to capture her next masterpiece.
Shooting Spongebob

Here I am about to shoot Spongebob with my Assault Rifle in Unreal Tournament 2004. Don’t get me wrong, I love Spongebob, I just got a little carried away. Oh yeah, and I’m fully aware of the randomness of this picture.
Soaring at the airfield

You’ve probably noticed that I spend a lot of time at this ‘airfield’. I can’t help it, it’s my escape. It’s filled with a natural beauty that few other places offer. The company you keep at this ‘airfield’ is the kind that inspires. Here’s a shot of one of the regulars. A beautiful Bald Eagle (one of a pair) that soars the beautiful blue skies. Sometimes I have the pleasure of sharing it’s airspace with one of my gliders.
So I hope you enjoyed a few more images of my life. Feel free to point out my childish hobbies.
Eric, I SO wish I had time for some childish hobbies again. Sigh. Maybe one day. Soak them up now, buddy. Once you have children, they’re an endangered species. At least for a while.

Oh wow, I would love a huge field to hang out in. Thinking of that reminds me of Pushing Tin and standing in front of a air plane that’s taking off.
(I love those kinds of maps in games…the rat maps, we as call them.)

Haha, why is it always so funny to see people things on animals?! Fun post, thanks for the laugh.

I love that picture of the eagle!!

@Sean: That’s what I hear. I’m sure I’ll find out soon enough.
@Matthew: “Oh wow, I would love a huge field to hang out in.”
I definitely enjoy it. I know it sounds so simple, but that’s what makes it such a great escape.
“(I love those kinds of maps in games…the rat maps, we as call them.)”
I didn’t know they were called that. I just always knew them to be kind of ‘hacked’ levels. Well, now I know.
@Matt: I’m glad you enjoyed it. Yeah, I’m not quite sure about the ‘people things on animals’ thing either.
@TheAndySan: I just happened to be in the right place at the right time. Glad you enjoyed it! Eric.
Hey Eric. I love the pictures, thanks for sharing. Wow, I would love to have a house like that, with the pool and those mountain views – to dream. I have Miniature Dachshunds as well (2) and they are so full of character. My fiance got into flying helicopters – boy was that expensive! Do you still fly? Have you discovered how easy it is to spend gobs of money? Thanks for sharing.

@Jennifer: The house is great. We only get to visit a couple of times a year, but we really enjoy the time when we do.
Dachshunds, full of character?
They’re like little people. We love them too.
No I don’t fly the helicopters any more, partially because of the reason you mentioned. One crash (which happens more than you’d like) can cost you new $100. Crazy expensive. I mostly stick with the planes. Gliders specifically. Most relaxing by far!
You’ve got a great new blog by the way. Eric.
I think Abi is super cute! I have a thing for dogs

@Maya: She’s too cute for her own good. But don’t let her innocent face fool you. She’s always up to no good.
Hi Eric – What a fun post. It’s great to see your playful side and a little more of your life. The bald eagle is a magnificent bird, isn’t it?

@Barbara: “The bald eagle is a magnificent bird, isn’t it?”
It’s absolutely beautiful! At first you think it’s buzzard because they are so common, but then you see the distinct white on black and the size of the actual bird and you know it’s an eagle. Very inspiring! Eric.
Haha. You had me there with Spongebob. I haven’t played Unreal in years! Goodness.
