About a month ago I published the first ‘community insight’ post called:
10 Signs Of A Healthy Heart | Community Insight
Just like this one, it was published on a Friday so it could resonate with the “Motivate Thyself” readers over the weekend and take in some ‘insightful’ comments. So here’s another ‘community insight’ post that will hopefully bring even more thought provoking ideas and views.
The basic concept is simple. I layout the question and/or framework of the post and you guys fill in the blanks. This is a perfect opportunity for you to put yourselves in the driver’s seat and share your thoughts with the rest of us. And sure, you can do this on any post, but I want you to comment as if you were publishing your own mini post. Let us learn a little something new from your words as they bounce off the basement walls.
Visual creatures
Human beings are very visual when it comes to absorbing the world around them. One of the most powerful parts of these images is the colors that create them. I find it amazing how many emotions, thoughts and ideas come to mind with a single tone. And it is this idea that I want to expand on.
What I’m going to do is layout 10 specific colors. Your job is to do the following:
- Pick any one color from the list that reminds you of something that you are passionate about.
- Then, tell us what that particular thing is.
- Finally, expand on your thoughts as you share this specific passion.
The Colors
- Red
- Green
- Blue
- Yellow
- Brown
- White
- Black
- Gray
- Purple
- Pink
To give you an example of the idea, I’ll go ahead and share mine:
I picked blue.
Not only is it one of my favorite colors, but the ‘thing’ it represents to me that I’m hopelessly passionate about is the SKY. To me, the sky represents freedom, flight, and sunlight. Everything that is absolutely wonderful seems to live in the sky. The peaceful clouds as they float by, a warm breeze on a summer’s day and the birds as they soar from one thermal to the next.
When I was a kid I used to lay in the grass and stare at the sky for hours. Now, as an adult, I may not have hours to kill, but I still make sure to get in my sky escape time.
I picked white. The ultimate color because it is a combination of all the colors!
I picked it because it made me think of the moon and stars. It is similar to your sky I suppose, but my passion is for the night. The moon when it is full and glowing. The moon when it is the thinnest tip of thumbnail. The thought of lower gravity.
The stars are also beautiful to me. They seem to be infinite in number. I like to imagine the worlds and the life that could possibly be revolving around the stars at this moment. Even when I look at the sky during the day, I love seeing the moon. And even though I can’t see the stars… I know they are there.
Oh yea and, a shooting star. That single piece of nature had brought me quite a bit of joy!
Great idea for a post, Eric. That was fun

My favorite colour is blue also. Blue is the sky and the water, be it the sea, a lake or a river.

I picked gray
Gray is a humble color, not quite black neither white, gray loves to be itself, it needs not to be seen, but gets along well with the other colors

Eric, I pick blue as well. It didn’t take me long to figure this one out. It’s the dominant color on my blog, and it was NOT my favorite color….before.
Blue, to me, represents serenity, freedom, future. Maybe it is because of the sky and how peaceful it looks, I’m not sure. I’ve not analyzed it that far. All I know is whenever I see blue, I feel at peace with myself and everything around me.
Black is representative of my past. I’m not a big fan of that color.
Hope I was on the mark with the “job” requirements. I’ll add to if I come up with anything over the weekend. Thanks for making me think!

I’ve gotta go with red. Red is an auspicious color. It can be lucky, or passionate. Fierce or festive. Right now, coincidentally, I am wearing a red tee-shirt beneath a red sweater. Red is the color of the blood which fills our bodies (at least as soon as it sees oxygen), and the color when we close our eyes. Red makes me think of everything I’ve ever done, and everything I’d ever want to do.
This is a great exercise Eric. Different from everything else.

My colour is green. To me it represents the earth and nature. It reminds me of time spent deep in the woods hiking and camping. It’s the opposite of the grey I see daily in the city. It has a freshness to it, as if it’s always new. To me it also represents our ability to grow and adapt.
I guess I will have to say rainbow since it’s difficult to choose just one color

Brown. Not because I wear brown, and please do not ask me to paint my walls any shade of brown. It jumped out at me because it represents earthiness, and groundedness. It’s a reminder that we are in integral part of this planet. Not just the green foliage that springs from the brown soil. Muck and compost are just as important. Literally and figuratively.

WHITE
Although there are alot of colors there that bring to mind things I’m passionate about, I’m gonna go with white.
White reminds me of snow and winter. Winter is my favorite season for four reasons: 1. It’s a time when I have the most opportunity to spend time with family and loved ones around Thanksgiving and the Holiday season. 2. Christmas festivities in the US always bring out the child in me, and I love wandering around the busy malls close to x-mas (even though I do all my shopping online) to smell the unique holiday smells, or drive around my neighborhood to check out all the x-mas lights. 3. I love to snowboard, which is only possible on the snow! 4. Nothing beats the feeling of warming yourself up after being outside in the cold, whether it’s a hot cup of coffee or curling up close to that special someone.

I would have to pick blue….from water and sky and the deepness of Navy blue makes me feel powerful and in charge of my thinking and secure, and serene. I live with a number of people who favor green and I found until I painted my work space morning – sky blue I did not feel like I had a spot or space that was my own.
This was such a fun way to think about community and colour especially as the wind blew down so many brilliant leaves during the night and my outside is so gray right now! Thank you…got me thinking.

I chose green.
Green has become almost a trendy catch-phrase these days, but to me it is about true currency: the energy exchange within nature. As humans, we are a part of nature, no matter how much we see ourselves as separate from it. We can give and take from nature, but we must strive for balance.
Green is the grass, the leaves. Green is the color of the stubborn weed that grows through the cracks of city pavement, simply growing because it can, and regardless of what anyone else thinks. Green is instinct and perseverance. Green is the breath of anything that lives and grows.

You guys really have some great insight! I’m enjoying each one of your comments. There’s definitely no shortage of passion here!
Eric.
Purple because it is the color of my blog and I’m passionate about my blog.
Since childhood, I am attracted to gray. I don’t know but for me, it’s like being in between. It’s like being fair. I like its lightness and darkness within. Most of my things and clothes have gray in them.
For me, it’s mysterious and interesting.
Thanks!

This was a tough choice for me, Eric. As I looked at the colors, many different thoughts came to mind. In the end, I’m choosing the color yellow. Yellow, because it reminds me of the sun. And with the sun, I think of all the light it provides to our world. And I’m passionate about becoming more of a “light” in the world myself. And the sun in the biggest, boldest light we have in our universe! So, on my journey through life, I think of the sun and the light it gives off – and I’ll try to be more like that sun – shedding my “light” on the world!

I really LIKE the pink and then the purple. But what draws me is the blue. Blue represents the comfort I feel being around water. I am always drawn to places of water and find such peace. Whether it be a beautiful, calming fountain, a scenic lake, or a swimming pool where I can lay on an air mattress and stare up at the sky. But where I feel destined to be in at the beach, listening to the sea gulls, watching the waves crash and feeling the ocean air on my face. That’s what blue means to me.

Mine would be red. I believe red is the color for fiery passion and enthusiasm that are critical for success. Red is also outstanding and I believe that we in our life should excel and be outstanding.

Grey. Because that is what to me life is. Infinite shades of Grey.
The more I experience the multiplicit vicissitudes of life the more I come to truly understand (beyond intellectualizing) that very little is set in stone. Even stone has been broken off from the mountain and will one day be worn down into smaller constituent parts. All is change and possibility. Go with it and embrace this as a natural state. And by doing so become powerful.

I choose black since nobody else has chosen black. We can mourn in black and celebrate in black. Dress it up or dress it down. I wear black for comfort and black for a wonderful night out. Black lets me accessorize and be creative w/o being overwhelming.
People don’t really see black as a color and I understand why – black is really very selfless a color. As much personality as it has on it’s own, it will still allow other colors define the mood and set the stage.
This is a great exercise.
I also love pink – only because it is the color of my new blog

Blue for the sky as well. I moved from Michigan where I lived my entire life to Arizona last year. In Michigan the sky is gray 9 months out of twelve. Arizona sky is blue at least 300 days of the year.
Two years before our move our daughter quit her teaching job and began working for South West airlines. We now fly free anytime we wish! So I’m “in the sky” at least once a month.
Life is good.

My favorite color is blue.
Blue symbolizes mysterious and powerful deep blue ocean. They are calm and serene at times. At the same time they can be vociferous and powerful enough to wipe out this whole world with their rampant waves. This trait sort of resembles me. I can be calm and composed at times. At other times I am brimming with enthusiasm and feel that I can conquer this whole world with my overflowing energy level.
Though I like all the colors known to exist in this world. I feel life should be like a colorful canvas with the perfect blend of different colors.
